Afterimage combines practical magic with meditation and spirituality. On its surface it is a black and red aluminum sublimation print made from a negative film still of Anne, a YouTube meditation guide, pulled from a nearly thirty minute video in which she guides viewers through a reading of Rudolf Steiner’s meditation and breathing exercises. 30 seconds of staring at the print generates an internal vision of Anne separated from the material world. Auger’s print therefore enacts the same progression from the corporeal to spiritual realm prescribed by Steiner’s writing by using a humble networked image of the woman responsible for spreading these teachings and the natural phenomenon…of staring at a screen too long.
